While his name might not resonate much in the US, Zico (real name: Arthur Antunes Coimbra) is a household word in Brazil…and also in Japan!
Zico was an extremely talented soccer player – one of the best, according to Pelé himself. He played in the 1978, 1982, and 1986 World Cups…none of which Brazil won.
After a successful career in Brazilian professional soccer, he played in Japan, later even coaching the Japanese national team in the 2002 World Cup. In that country he is known as “The God of Football”.
