Almost every Friday the hashtag #sextou takes over Brazilian Twitter. Literally “it Friday-ed”, it carries the same mixture of jubilation and relief as the English acronym “TGIF”.

And the tweets are very entertaining.

Translation: When I remember that today is Friday!

Translation: My plans for this Friday (giant letters read “nothing”)

Translation: Tired, drained, exhausted, and poor.

Translation: This is why we are so excited about the arrival of the weekend.

Translation: I’ve never seen a week that’s taken so long to go by, but at last, it’s Friday!
