We have posted about João Gilberto and his impact on Brazilian and American music here before. Over the weekend, João Gilberto passed away at 88 years of age. He was truly a giant on the Brazilian musical landscape, and will surely be missed.
Here are some examples of his musical genius.
Here he sings “Chega de Saudade” with his daughter Bebel.
Another duet, this time “Desafinado” with Caetano Veloso.
And here he sings Jou Jou Blangandans with the incomparable Rita Lee.
And here he is in the US playing “Aguas de Março” with sax legend Stan Getz.
João Gilberto has left us, but his musical legacy lives on.
