A few decades from now, the “Car Wash” (Lava Jato in Portuguese) investigation will prove to be one of the most important events in the history of Brazil. Not to put too fine a point on it, but this corruption scandal has toppled governments throughout Latin America and given rise to the right-wing candidacies of people like Jair Bolsonaro.
To understand the dynamics of present-day Brazil, one must understand what went down at a little car wash in Curitiba.
This video by Al Jazeera (I know, right?) gives a great overview. It’s a little longer than most of the videos we post here, but then again, the Car Wash investigation is huge.
